Safety Engineer
MAJOR GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support safety policies, procedures and activities under the direction of the Corporate Safety Manager. Manage all safety aspects (from planning and start-up to close-out) of assigned divisions/projects. Maintain a zero-incident culture throughout area of assignment.
ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES:
Review, maintain, implement, and enforce Tarlton Corporation Safety Program, Federal, state and local regulations and coordinate/manage Loss Control efforts as it pertains to safety and security on jobsites. Specific duties include:

ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES:
Review, maintain, implement, and enforce Tarlton Corporation Safety Program, Federal, state and local regulations and coordinate/manage Loss Control efforts as it pertains to safety and security on jobsites. Specific duties include:
- Support safety policies, procedures, and activities under the direction of the Corporate Safety Manager.
- Coach, develop and mentor project teams for safety planning on projects.
- Conduct and document regular job site inspections and assist team to resolve deficiencies found. Use this as the primary motivation tool to positively point out areas of merit and areas of needed improvement.
- Assist as in-house contact on all safety related issues from corporate policy making to construction methods/procedures and their effects/relationships to proper Loss Control procedures in assigned division(s)/jobsite(s).
- Assist with medical case management through coordination with Corporate Safety Director/Manager. This includes initial first aid, initial clinical visits and initial reporting and incident investigation.
- Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports.
- Coordinate and interact with insurance carrier Loss Control Inspections on assigned project(s), as needed.
- Periodically review Pre-Task Safety Plans (PTSP’s) with project team and ensure communication down to each craft worker.
- Attend owner-initiated safety walk throughs and project meetings as necessary.
- Regular communications with Corporate Safety Manager on status of assigned projects.
- Assist in corporate safety training development and serve as instructor for assigned areas of technical expertise.
- Regularly communicate with project teams and interact with owner/clients on assigned projects.
- Participate in professional industry organizations for personal, professional, and corporate development.
- Participate in the Safety Committee and chair assigned Subcommittee to proactively develop safety programs and initiatives to improve Tarlton’s overall safety program and culture.
- Assist, where assigned, to achieve the Safety Departments Business Plan Goals.
- Review subcontractor’s safety program and ensure the programs meet or exceed the project safety program requirements.
- Ensure that each subcontractor designates a safety representative that is properly trained in the subcontractor's scope of work and has the proper authority to correct safety issues for assigned projects.
- Assist project teams with daily, weekly, and monthly safety activities as needed.
- Various other duties that may be assigned by the company.

- Frequent trips to project sites: construction Sites are inherently hazardous environments. While we attempt to mitigate the exposure, there is exposure to physical risk.
- May regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sit, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop or kneel.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high and/or precarious places and outside weather conditions.
- Noise level on projects may periodically exceed OSHA PEL’s, ability to wear hearing protection is required.
Qualifications
- Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- B.S. in Safety and Health or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years of safety experience or a combination of education/multiple years’ experience in building construction, with a working knowledge of safety/environment principles and techniques.
- Bilingual in Spanish and intercultural communication skills is a bonus.
- OSHA 30-hour construction accreditation.
- First Aid and CPR Certified
- First Aid and CPR trainer is a plus.
- OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer is a plus.
- BCSP Certificates a bonus
- Computer skills with familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
