Pay:  $18.10/hour

Organization Description: The mission of Gene Slay’s Girls & Boys Club (GSGBC) is to empower girls and boys in the St. Louis metropolitan area, especially those who need us most, to realize their physical, intellectual, and emotional potential.

Since 2018, GSGBC has embraced trauma-informed care in its operations and service delivery to members and their families. Drawing from models like the Sanctuary Model, Missouri Model, and Conscious Discipline, the organization integrates trauma-informed principles into its culture and practices. Staff receive training to understand the impacts of trauma and effectively address related behaviors. The Conscious Discipline Model emphasizes safety, connection, and problem-solving, enhancing support for children’s emotional and behavioral needs. GSGBC is committed to fostering a supportive, empowering environment where members and families can thrive. 

GSGBC offers afterschool and summer programming for youth ages 6-16, serving more than 700 youth annually. GSGBC supports youth development and holistic health with programs that include Academics, Athletics, Character Building, Healthy Living, College & Career Readiness and The Arts. Summer Camp is offered June through July, 7:00 am-6:00 pm. 

Primary Function: The Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Program Manager in their daily required duties, including the coordination and implementation of programming, maintaining a safe and healthy physical environment for members, and maintaining an accurate record of attendance. They will work closely with the Program Manger to ensure the Club adheres to the program schedule as set forth by the Director of Programs.

Schedule:
The Program Coordinator at St. Cecilia School works approximately 20 hours per week through the school year, with an anticipated schedule of 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. When St. Cecilia dismisses early (approximately one time per month, generally on Fridays) the afterschool program starts at 12:00 pm, and the Program Coordinator will arrive at 11:00 am. The afterschool program will follow SFCA’s school calendar, no afterschool program will run on days when SFCA is closed to children. This is a nine-month position employed August – May.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Program Coordination:

  • Greet members in a positive manner
  • Monitor the door, greeting guests upon arrival
  • Act as Program Manager in their absence
  • Maintain knowledge of school and activity calendars, keeping youth and families abreast of upcoming events and important dates/days off
  • Coordinate and implement youth programming, including leading club activities
  • Ensure member participation in scheduled clubs and school activities
Daily Attendance:
  • Check members in and out using Trax Attendance Manager (internal attendance system)
  • Responsible for enrolling members into Apricot (grant reporting system)
  • Responsible for the daily entering of attendance into Apricot
  • Ensure accurate real time attendance for emergency procedures
  • Ensure safe dismissal of members to authorized pick-up person
  • Review all membership applications for accuracy before accepting
  • Administer warnings and fines to parents/guardians for late pick-up
  • Report attendance numbers to GSGBC Leadership daily
Safety and Physical Space:
  • Conduct daily safety/cleanliness inspections throughout the afterschool space
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, conduct fire, tornado and disaster drills according to schedule
  • Assist in administering First Aid to members as needed
  • Assist with daily cleaning and organizing of Afterschool space as needed
Skills & Knowledge Required
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and online databases
  • Experience working with children and youth required
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English is highly desirable
  • Experience using tablet, mobile phone and laptop devices
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with data entry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High school diploma required, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Ability to self-start, take initiative, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Works collaboratively with other staff and management
  • Ability to problem solve and process through critical thinking
  • Must pass the health and employment requirements set by Missouri Department Elementary and Secondary Education as a condition of employment (including background check, fingerprints, drug screen, physical and TB risk assessment
 
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while supervising children and monitoring program spaces.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and perform light cleaning and organizing tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving supplies or equipment).
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, including participating in safety drills and guiding children to safety.
  • Ability to administer basic First Aid, which may involve kneeling or bending.
  • Must meet health requirements set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, including passing a physical exam and TB risk assessment.
